Japanese Eel festival starts today

Mako’s Japanese Restaurant at Dwarika’s Hotel, Battisputali, is organizing Japanese Eel festival starting today. With the Japanese belief that consumption of eel cools down one’s body, this festival is set on the month of July, the hottest month of the year.

There are altogether four courses in the meal, served both for lunch and dinner. One of the appetizers is ‘ingen goma-ae’, a simple spinach dish that is an earnest attempt to please the criticizers of vegetarian food. Similarly, the main meal, ‘nigri sushi’, an assortment of sushi eel, salmon and tuna, is a paradise for sushi lovers.

Along with the misho soup served during the meal, the dessert, Green Tea Ice-Cream, seems to elude the conventionalism of ice cream flavors in Nepal. With the taste of Japanese green tea rightly blended into the creamy texture of ice-cream, one should definitely not skip this.

The total cost of the four-course meal served along with a chilled can of Asahi beer or a soft drink is Rs. 2000. This festival is scheduled to end on July 22.
