The only Jazz extragavanza of the Himalayas, Jazzmandu, is back to hit jazz lovers in the Valley with its 10th anniversary celebrations this November. Headlining the event will be American drummer Tito Puente Jr, son of legendary musician and king of Latin Jazz Tito Puente.
Slated to take place between November 1 and 7, Jazzmandu 2012 aims to promote Jazz musical education and tourism in Nepal, while developing jazz music for peace. The event also brings Big Band Jazz for the first time Nepal, with various artists combining their sets to perform Latin Jazz alongside Tito Puente Jr. International artists Beat Kaestli and Ben Stivers (Switzerland), Marlow Rosado (USA), Rootman (Thailand), Suzy&2 (Norway), Adil and Vasundhara (India), and Nojazz (France) will also be performing with local bands Cadenza, Kutumba and Urjazz at various venues.
Backed by the success of the Jazz event at Patan in 2001, Upstairs Idea, in 2002, initiated The Kathmandu Festival of Jazz , a week long festival that brought together jazz musicians and lovers and promotes jazz music inside the Capital. Since then, the festival, now referred to as Jazzmandu, has gained enormous popularity and is hailed as one of the biggest musical fiesta of the country, and an important Jazz -based musical event in the whole of South Asia.
