Thamel to stay open round the clock from New Year's Eve

The partygoers and tourists are in for a major treat this New Year with the prime tourist hub in the Kathmandu Valley to remain open 24 hours a day.

Thamel will now remain open 24 hours a day beginning from coming New Year’ Eve which falls on Thursday next week. The Thamel Tourism Development Council in collaboration with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu and Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office will keep the famous tourist hub open round the clock to serve the tourists with more facilities.


Thamel will now be opened 24 hours in view of the complaints from foreign tourists that they have not found an environment for entertainment and to spend money, told Council’s Chairman Ram Sharan Thapaliya to the National News Agency (RSS).

Thapaliya said that the disco, bars and night clubs will be opened till 4 am while hotels and restaurants will remain open until 2 am.

The necessary arrangements have been put in place for security of the tourists and businessmen while works for installation of CC cameras in major streets of Thamel and solar bulbs is being carried out rapidly, according to the Council.

A data provided by the Council has shown that at least 4000 business centers including hotels, restaurants and travel and tour agencies are operating in Thamel. Of the total number of tourists arriving in the country, 80 per cent of them visit Thamel.


Special cultural program in the offing
The Council is planning to hold special cultural programs on the occasion of the New Year 2016. It will showcase 12 different cultural programs from 6 pm to 8 pm on New Year’s Eve and a special cultural program featuring DJs from 9 pm to 12:30 am.
