Some heritage sites of Kathmandu valley to open from June 15

The government is opening heritage sites in Kathmandu for tourists from June 15.

According to Tourism Recovery Committee (TRC), the meeting of the TRC with joint secretaries of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), Director General of the Department of Tourism, immediate and past director generals of Department of Archaeology, archeological experts, presidents of the tourism organizations, executive committee members and administrative chief of Nepal Tourism Board headed by the Secretary of Tourism Suresh Man Shrestha on Monday decided to mark June 15 as the day to open the heritage sites to the tourists.

Bhesh Narayan Dahal, Director General of the Department of Archaeology confirmed that they will open Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swoyambhunath and Patan Durbar Square for the tourists officially from that day. He further added that Boudhanath, Budhanilkantha and Pashupatinath are safe enough to take the tourists for sightseeing even today.Shrestha emphasized on the necessity for international media marketing and Fam trips for celebrities, tour operators and travel writers to Nepal.

He said this would provide a clear picture of what we still have to offer after April 25 Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) has committed on providing complimentary accommodation and Nepal Association of Tour Operators (NATO) will be handling the ground transportation and guide for the group.

In the meeting, discussions were made on the best practice to restore and rebuild the heritage sites maintaining the sensibility and authenticity of the nation's cultural history.
