NTB deposits Rs 100m as seed money in Tourism Recovery Fund

For restoration of the monuments, cultural heritage and other tourism infrastructures that suffered damages in the devastating earthquake of April 25, the Tourism Recovery Committee (TRC) led by the director general of Department of Tourism had started collecting funds.

TRC has called on the domestic and international tourism entrepreneurs, organisations, donors as well as other well wishers to contribute in the Tourism Recovery Fund.

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) — the tourism promotion body formed in the public-private model — has contributed Rs 100 million as seed money in the fund. The amount was contributed following the recent decision taken by the board meeting of NTB.

TRC is going to organise ‘Tourism Restoration Conference’ in Kathmandu very soon with support from the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), according to Suman Pandey, president of PATA Nepal Chapter as well as the spokesman for TRC.

PATA Vice President Andrew Jones will come to Kathmandu to attend the conference. Similarly, representatives of various tourism related organisations invited in the conference will offer suggestions related to how the country should work to revive the tourism industry.

The government, in association with tourism-related private sector organisations, had formed TRC a week ago, to revive the tourism industry.

The TRC, under the coordination of Department of Tourism’s Director General Gautam, comprises representatives of Hotel Association Nepal, Nepal Mountaineering Association, Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal, Nepal Association of Tour Operators, Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents, Pacific Asia Travel Association-Nepal Chapter, Society of Travel and Tour Operators, Nepal Airlines Corporation, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal and Nepal Tourism Board. Administrative Chief of NTB, Ramesh Kumar Adhikari is the member-secretary of TRC.
