Sonam Lhochhar being marked with fanfare today

Sonam Lhochhar, a great festival of the Tamang community in Nepal, is being celebrated with fanfare and zeal across the country on Wednesday.

During this festival, the houses and vicinity are kept clean, holy clothes hoisted and pooja conducted by worshipping Lord Buddha.

Similarly, the Lama and gurus are gathered; dances performed making the merriment in the Tamang community.

President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has extended greetings to all Nepali brothers and sisters living at home and abroad, on the occasion of the great festival of Sonam Lhochhar of the Tamang community and wished them joy, peace and prosperity.



In best wishes message, the President expressed confidence that the festival would help increase the sentiment of bond by binding the Nepali people of the mountainous, hilly and the Terai region in a single thread of unity.

President Yadav wished the festival of the likes of Sonam Lhochhar would encourage us to protect and promote all festivals, languages, attire, culture and traditions.

In a separate message, Vice President Parmananda Jha has extended greetings to all Tamang brothers and sisters on the occasion of the great festival of Sonam Lhochhar.

The Vice-President has wished the festival would inspire all Nepalis to move ahead on the path of agreement and collaboration by uniting all at a time when the country is in the necessity of peace, prosperity and democratic constitution.

"I wish joy, good health, prosperity and progress to all Nepali brothers and sisters living at home and abroad on this occasion," Vice President Jha said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala extended greetings to all brothers and sisters of the Tamang community living in the country and abroad on the joyous occasion of the greatest festival of the Tamang community and New Year Llhuk Sonam Lhochhar (Sheep New Year) 2851.

He also wished joy, peace, prosperity, good health and long life.

PM Koirala said the multiparty political system had given all citizens the freedom to endorse any political viewpoint and religion they desired.

He appealed to all political parties to exercise patience and restraint to institutionalize the historic achievements of federalism, republic and inclusive democracy through a new constitution in the backdrop of uprisings spanning six decades.
