Two Nepali airlines among world's unsafest airlines

Two Nepali Airlines have been listed as the unsafest airlines in the world, according to the annual aviation survey report on air safety released by AirlineRatings.com.

The website, which provides information on global aviation industry including a world class rating system, safety ratings, crash investigations among other aviation related issues, has given the lowest rating to Tara Air and Nepal Airlines.

Both airlines have received one star out of 7-star safety ranking. Kazakhstan´s Scat Airlines and Afghanistan´s Kam Air are other air services figuring in unsefest category in the report.

As per the website, if an airline has a crash that involves the death of a passenger and/or crew members it will automatically receive a deduction of one star, giving it a lower safety rating."A crash involving fatalities carries with it a one star deduction for 10 years from the date of the incident," the website explains its rating system.

The European Commission last month had included all Nepali airlines in its list of banned operators citing frequent fatal air crashes in Nepali domestic sky.

Among the 449 airlines surveyed across the globe by the website, Australian airline Qantas has topped the list as world’s safest airline.

Aer Lingus (Ireland), Alaska Airlines (U.S), Icelandair (Iceland), Jetblue (U.S.), Jetstar (Australia), Kulula.com (South Africa), Monarch Airlines (UK), Thomas Cook (UK), TUIfly (Germany) and WestJet (Canada) have made it to the list of top ten as the safest air service to fly with.
