Ishani comes back to hero's welcome-Shares her experience of glorious victory

News

Relatives, friends, mentors and supporters — all waited for her at the airport.

It was around one in the afternoon and eager yet patient well-wishers were there to get a glimpse of Ishani Shrestha who recently did Nepal proud at the 63rd Miss World — winning the subtitle Beauty With a Purpose and becoming the second runner-up of Multimedia, while also being able to come in the Top 10 at the pageant.

When Miss Nepal 2013 Shrestha with a big smile appeared before them, they greeted her like a hero returning after winning a war.

“I was away from Nepal for a month and I am happy to be back,” Shrestha shared. And addressing the organiser of Miss Nepal, her designers, choreographers,
former Miss Nepals and the locals here, she said, “Thank you so much for all the love and support that I got during my endeavour. I was feeling lonely during my stay there. The support made my journey easier. I was motivated and that is why I am here.” A press meet was held at Airport Hotel where Shrestha shared her experience of her month-long stay in Indonesia and how she did her country proud.

She even talked about her ‘Project Smile’ and how she impressed the judges later committing to the project for lifetime. She revealed her desire to take the project to the international level.

Walking down memory lane to the grand finale of Miss World on September 28, Shrestha revealed, “I didn’t hear the name of ‘Nepal’ in Top 20, but I went backstage with a satisfaction that I worked hard and
at least got to represent my culture and tradition. Later I was told that I was selected in Top 10 — listening to it was like I had won Miss World title itself.” She had hoped but hadn’t really expected to reach where she ultimately did. And the feeling of dancing to the tunes of Maiti Ghar while girls from other 130 countries following her steps was of “ecstasy”.

Further talking to The Himalayan Times after the press meet, she shared her moment on the big
stage as “I wasn’t thinking anything ... I was feeling my heartbeats”.

It was the same when she presented her Beauty With a Purpose because “I invested three months into that.

There was a lot of hard work and planning in it.”
Though she feared that Nepal wouldn’t be recognised in such a gathering, she is proud that the country finally got noticed. She remarked, “Winning this title was every girl’s dream. It was mine too. It would have been fine even if I hadn’t won the title because while working for this project I went to Jumla and offered my services to the people there, who are extremely happy for it.” Shrestha broke the jinx of Miss Nepals not bringing home any title from any international pageant. When she participated in the Miss World contest, Shrestha had thought, “I have to step up to it. I have to work hard.

I have to win something.” She believes that with support from the government along with Miss Nepals’ “hard work and dedication with a good purpose”, it could help future Nepali contestants win the Miss World title.
