NTB fails yet again to get new chief

The process to select the chief executive officer of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has once again come to a standstill. Due to repeated stay orders given by the court because of the writs filed by dissatisfied applicants and members of the board, the selection process has again failed.

“We were all prepared for the final selection process and had also called for an interview and presentation from the applicants but the process has yet again been withheld due to a stay order,” said a member of the board.

The chief executive’s post has remained vacant for more than one and a half years now but the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has still not shown concern over the selection process. It has already been around 20 months since Prachanda Man Shrestha retired as the CEO of NTB on October 31, 2011.

Due to disagreements between members, it took more than a year to form a sub-committee to help select three candidates out of the 12 applicants. However, selection committee formed received another stay order from the court due to a writ filed by an applicant who expressed dissatisfaction because the sub-committee had only two members.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board Act, the selection committee must have three members from the board to select the three applicants for the final appointment.
