TAAN gives away awards

The Trekking Agencies´ Association of Nepal (TAAN) gave away awards to different individuals on the occasion of TAAN Day and diamond jubilee celebration of the first ascent of Mt Everest amidst a function at Basantapur Durbar Square on Wednesday.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ram Kumar Shrestha handed over TAAN Sagarmatha Dr Harka Gurung Award to Tika Ram Gurung, according to a TAAN statement. The award carries a purse of Rs 50,000 and a letter of appreciation.

Similarly, TAAN Sagarmatha Journalism Award was given to Ballav Mani Dahal of The Rising Nepal, an English language daily, and Diwakar Panta of Kantipur TV. Dahal and Panta received a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each and appreciation letters.

Likewise, TAAN Tourism Journalism Awards were bagged by Devi Prasad Panta of Sunrise Nepal tourism fortnightly, Shiva Adhikari of Gantabya Nepal tourism fortnightly and Shiva Shrestha of Mountain TV. Panta, Adhikari and Shrestha received cash prize of Rs 25,000 each and appreciation letters.
Minister Shrestha also gave away TAAN Sagarmatha Pasang Lhamu Award to Nima Chhamji Sherpa, the youngest Nepali woman to reach the summit of Mt Everest. The award carries cash prize of Rs 25,000 and an appreciation letter. Similarly, TAAN Sagarmatha Pema Doma Academic Press Award was bagged by Eliza Tuladhar of The Himalayan Times, an English language daily. The award carries a purse of Rs 15,000 and an appreciation letter.
Nepal has been celebrating May 29 as International Sagarmatha Day for the last six years.

To celebrate the occasion and its founding day, the TAAN has launched a clean-up campaign at the Everest Base Camp.
