NTB CEO selection process to end soon

The recently formed two-member sub-committee of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) is preparing to announce names of three shortlisted candidates for the position of NTB chief executive.

“We now have only 12 days left to shortlist three candidates among the 12 applicants,” said a member representing the private sector in the board Dhurba Narayan Shrestha. The sub-committee comprises of Shrestha and Phurba Gyalgen Sherpa. It was initially supposed to have three members.

Due to continuous conflict and legal hassles the board was unable to move ahead with the CEO selection process.

However, due to the continuous public notices issued by NTB, the board finally formed the sub-committee comprising of only two members from the private sector, as the other members were unavailable due to their busy schedule, said the board members.

Nepal Tourism Board had selected the two sub-committee members and had given them 21 days to go through the details of the 12 applicants and forward the selection report to the board within the given time.

“We are almost done with the process and will submit the report to the board which will finally select the chief executive officer among the three candidates shortlisted by us,” said Shrestha.

Due to conflicting interests and legal hassles, NTB has been without a CEO for more than a year. The tenure of then CEO Prachanda Man Shrestha had expired on October 31, 2011.

Meanwhile, the tenure of the board members had expired on December 1, 2011, and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation had formed a board member selection committee comprising of joint secretary of the ministry Ranjan Krishna Aryal, and tourism entrepreneurs Bodhraj Bhandari of Kaski, and Tilak Bahadur Lama of Kavre, on December 20, 2011.
