Nisha Adhikari not in Mt Everest expedition team

News

Solukhumbu: It has been learnt that actors Nisha Adhikari and Arjun Kari, who are currently at the Everest Base Camp to scale the Mt Everest, have not acquired expedition permit from the tourism ministry.

According to Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC), Namche, the list of names in the expedition team sent to us by the ministry does not include their names.

According to Kapindra Rai, program officer at SPCC, Karki and Adhikari left for the base camp without registering their names. “Even the list sent to us by the ministry does not have their names,” Rai told Republica.

“Climbers are required to pay a huge sum for Everest expedition. Moreover, royalty can be waived off only through a cabinet-level decision. However, this is not the case with Adhikari and Karki,” said Rai.

The actors are members of Seven Summit Trek Expedition attempting for to scale the world highest peak this season. They are now at the base camp preparing for the ascent. No climber can go up beyond the base camp without expedition permit issued by the ministry.

According to tourism secretary Shushil Ghimire, Nisha might have gone to the base camp as she had already completed the altitude training, but even if she successfully climbs Mt Everest the ascent would not be recognized. “I have learnt that she underwent training but she would still need the permission from the ministry to make the ascent,” said Ghimire.

Earlier, it was said that the expedition was sponsored by Mega Bank. Nisha had also taken a flag with the logo of the bank to take it to the summit.
