New ultralight flight operator coming up in Pokhara

Pokhara: A new ultralight flights operator is coming up in Pokhara.Pokhara Ultralight Company is commencing operation in the tourist town within one and half months. At present, Avia Club has been operating ultralight flights in Pokhara.

The company has acquired three ultralight aircraft with 80 horse power capacity made by Ukraine-based Aeros, according to Dr Prabin Baniya, president of the company. “We are preparing to start flights by the second week of May. The aircraft will arrive here by April-end,” he added.

Currently, the company is busy building hangar for the aircraft at Pokhara Airport.

Two Russian pilots have already available in Pokhara. Similarly, a Russian pilot and an engineer are arriving with the aircraft, said Baniya.

“We have arranged sufficient manpower to operate the flights,” Baniya said, adding, “We have intensified operation to operate flights as per the schedule.”

The ultralight aircraft with flex wings can carry two persons including a pilot. The planes are designed is such a way that passengers can enjoy views of the lake city and snowy mountains in the northern horizon easily.

The company is investing around Rs 50 million to start ultralight flights. It plans to recruit two more pilots in September to strengthen its human resource for ensuring uninterrupted flights.

“Though we have hired foreign pilots at present, we have plans to train local youths to fly ultralight aircraft,” he added.

Pokhara Ultralight has prepared four packages for foreign tourists. The company has set price of 15 minutes package at US$ 90, 20 minutes at $160, 60 minutes at $255 and 90 minutes at $375.

According to Baniya, the company will prepare special package for domestic tourists during off season.
