Ace Hotels investing Rs 250m on Ambassador Hotel

Ace Hotels and Resorts Group is investing Rs 250 million to construct an 8-storied building on the land occupied by Hotel Ambassador in Lazimpat.

The group has already shifted operation of the 35-year-old hotel to Chhauni after its building was demolished during the recent road expansion drive of the government. It invested Rs 70 million in the Chhauni project. The Ambassador Chhauni Hotel started operation last month. It has 25 rooms.

Yogendra Shakya, executive chairman of the group, said construction works will begin from March. “We hope all construction works will complete within two years,” Shakya said. “The first two floors of the new building, which will spread over two ropanis, will be used as shopping arcade and remaining six floors will be used by the hotel.”

Shakya said the new hotel will be of three-star category and will retain the name ´Hotel Ambassador´. Hotel Ambassador will have 50 deluxe or 75 standard rooms.

“It will have central air conditioning, sound proof windows and a completely new interior. We will hire 40 new employees for the hotel,” he added.

Like other properties of the group, Shakya said guests at Hotel Ambassador will enjoy top class service and amenities. The room tariff of the hotel will be in the range of US$ 50 to $ 75 with breakfast.

The group is targeting adventurous tourists for the hotel. “Tourists from Asia, particularly India and China, will also be in our priority,” Shakya said, adding, “As the hotel will be located in the vicinity of several diplomatic missions, we are hopeful of getting good business from local sales as well.”

Once the new building comes into operation, the group will start construction of another five-start hotel, Shakya Heritage Hotel in Nagpokhari, Kathmandu.

Along with the Ambassador Hotel, the group currently operates Marcopolo Business Hotel in Kathmandu, Trek-O-Tel in Pokhara, Club Himalaya in Nagarkot and Shanti Ban Resort in Chitwan.
