Chefs play a key role in promoting country's tourism

Chefs as culinary artistes can play a vital role in attracting tourists, according to experts.

Speaking at an interaction organised by Chef’s Association of Nepal, minister for science and technology Dr Keshavman Shakya said that chefs have an important role in promoting tourism. Chefs are culinary artistes and their role is important to attract tourist.

“Chefs are artistes,” he said, adding that they can attract people from around the globe with their traditional tastes. “Nepali chefs have been doing the job perfectly.”

“We have to start modern training programmes in Nepali cooking to compete with international culinary art,” he said.

Chefs must focus on new experiments to offer Nepali taste, Shakya added.

The association is the umbrella organisation of more than 900 Nepali chefs spread across the globe. In the interaction, president of the association Ratna Bahadur Thapa sought government support to improve Nepali cuisine.
