Pokhara hotels plan special New Year programs

Pokhara: Hotels in Pokhara are organizing special programs on New Year eve, eyeing both domestic as well as foreign tourists.
“We are organizing a special entertainment program till midnight to entertain domestic as well as foreign visitors,” said Kamal Sherchan, sales manager of Pokhara Grande -- a five star hotel. “As all our rooms have already been booked, we have designed only the entertainment programs for this year.”

The hotel is organizing a musical program that will include DJ session. According to the hotel, Nepalis can get entry to the event by paying Rs 2,500. Entry fee for foreigners have been fixed at US$ 50. The fee includes free meal and beverages.

Sherchan said events like these would help promote domestic tourism in the lake city.

Another star hotel, Shangri-La Village Resort, is also organizing an entertainment event named ´Nawa Barsha Saajh´ on New Year eve. “We are organizing this program to entertain both domestic as well as foreign guests,” Gupta Giri, front office manager of Shangri-la, told Republica.

According to Giri, Nepalis can participate in the program by paying Rs 3,000 for individuals and Rs 4,500 for couples. Foreigners, however, will need to pay $50 per person.

“We have made the rates cheaper for domestic tourists and locals in order to encourage more locals to participate in the program. This will help promote domestic tourism as well,” said Giri.

Hotel Barahi is organizing fashion show and salsa dance to celebrate New Year 2013. It is also organizing DJ session to entertain guests at the hotel. Raj Kumar KC, general manager of Hotel Barahi, said the hotel will charge Nepalis Rs 2,500 for individuals and Rs 4,000 for couples. Foreigners can get entry into the event by paying $50.

“We will provide rooms to only those who buy tickets to the program,” added KC.

Bharat Raj Parajuli, first vice president of Pashchimanchal Hotel Association, said most of the hotels in the lake city have designed special programs on New Year eve to attract domestic as well as foreign visitors. “The programs designed by the hotels have proved very effective,” he added.
