Government plans to amend tourism policy

The government is amending tourism policy to promote sustainable, eco-friendly, responsible and tourist-friendly tourism,” said minister for tourism and civil aviation Lokendra Bista Magar.

Speaking at the 39th annual general meeting of Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management here today, he said that government has placed tourism sector in its priority agenda.

He also hailed the contribution of the academy. “It has been actively involved in developing trained human resources since its inception through academic as well as vocational training courses for the expansion of tourism and hospitality sector in the country,” he added.

The academy has been working in the field since 39 years,” said executive director of the academy Prem Raj Joshi. “We will soon have a four star training hotel property at our premises.

The training hotel will have 80 rooms, four apartments, four suits and two pent houses.

“It will enhance skill oriented training for the students,” said Joshi. Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management has a history of four decades service in Nepali Tourism and Hotel Management education.

Established in the year 1972 with the technical assistance of UNDP/ILO to produce skilled workforce required by hospitality and tourism sector. The academy has produced more than 30,000 basic, supervisory and managerial level workforces.

“Our statistics shows that among the people trained at the academy approximately 90 per cent of them are employed in their respective areas,” Joshi claimed, adding that products from the institution are working in the foreign hospitality industries mainly in Europe, America, Australia and Dubai.
