Trekking workers to get revised pay

Trekking workers will now receive the revised trekking charges effective from January 1, 2013.

“We have resolved the conflict between unions, and on mutual understanding, we agreed to give increased wages to trekking workers from January 1, 2013,” president of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Mahendra Singh Thapa said.

“We already had bookings for this season, therefore it was difficult for us to revise the wages,” he said and added that the workers will get an increment of Rs 200 flat in the total wages. The trekking season started from September 15, and will end on December 15.

According to Thapa, the association will also form a workers’ welfare fund of Rs five million within a week. Earlier, unions at TAAN had padlocked the TAAN office as the association had not revised the wages according to the agreement made between the association and the workers’ union. TAAN had agreed to increase the wages from October 1, but failed to implement the decision.
