Today is 33rd World Tourism Day

The 33rd World Tourism Day is being celebrated worldwide today with the theme ‘Tourism and Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development’ set by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

The day is celebrated each year on the 27th day of September.

In Nepal also, different programmes to highlight the role of tourism are being organised which will be participated by representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and tourism associations.

About 48 different associations from all over the country will organise a series a programmes today including cultural shows and rallies, food festivals, and fun fairs to mark the 33rd World Tourism Day.

Major stakeholders from hotels, airlines, travel agencies, tour companies, and sports and service sectors are set to organise an interaction programme to highlight issues related to the tourism industry.

Similarly, other major events are: Kathmandu Open Triathlon Championships, inter-college quiz contest and essay competition, Kasthamandap Clean-up Campaign, motorcycle journey for tourism promotion in eastern Nepal, and welcoming the first group of tourists with a cultural procession from Belhiya and Gaddachauki entry points.

The Hotel Association Nepal, Nepal Association of Rafting Agents, Nepal Mountaineering Association, Thamel Tourism Development Committee, Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal, Tour Guide Association of Nepal, Nepal Tourist Vehicle Association, Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents, and Journalists’ Association for Tourism Nepal are some of the associations which will organise various programmes to mark the 33rd World Tourism Day.

Meanwhile, Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), to mark the 33rd World Tourism Day 2012, has requested hotels to provide 25 per cent discount on food for tourists arriving on September 27.
