Room tariff of Pokhara hotels up by 25%

Pokhara: Pokhara based hoteliers have increased room tariff by as much as 25 percent. Hoteliers said the booking for the peak season was received with the increased tariff ranging from 15 to 25 percent compared to same period of last year.

The hoteliers attributed the rise to increasing price of commodities and the overall operation cost.

Tourist class hotels of Lakeside to five-star hotel have raised the tariff. Pokhara has around 1,500 hotels with the bed capacity of 15,000.

Most of the hotels have already received 100 percent booking starting from the month of September. The occupancy rate is satisfactory till the month of December, according to the hoteliers.

General Secretary of Pashchimanchal Hotel Association Pokhara, (PHAP) Bikal Tulachan said the increment was necessary as the cost of electricity, fuel and other commodities had also increased. Tulachan who operates Hotel Fair Mountain said that the tariff in his hotel had increased by 15 percent.

Hotel Barahi has also increased its room tariff by 20 percent effective from October. The hotel has 85 rooms including 76 deluxe rooms. Rajkumar K.C, Executive Manager of the hotel said, “The annual increment in tariff was natural as the operating cost had increased.” After the increment, standard room of the hotel will cost $ 45 and deluxe will cost $60 for a couple.

Hoteliers however, have not increased the tariff of food and beverage.“We are yet to decide on increasing the price of the menu,” added K.C.

Likewise, Temple Tree is also increasing its room tariff by 15 percent. The hotel has 49 rooms and after the increment the room tariff will be $80- $90, according to operation manager of the hotel Krishna Acharya. “The increment in meals will add burden to the budget of tourists. So, we will revise the menu after sometime,” added he.

The five star hotel- Pokhra Grande has increased the tariff by 20 to 25 percent. A deluxe room at the Pokhara Grande will cost $ 180. Guest-Service Manager at the hotel Samjhana Gurung said the occupancy of the hotel starting from mid-September was at 100 percent.
