Hotel booking for peak season encouraging in Chitwan

Chitwan:Sauraha based hoteliers are overwhelmed with the hotel booking for the upcoming peak season. Hoteliers said although the peak season was beginning from October, rooms in most of the hotels were already booked.

Chitwan is considered as top three tourist destinations in the country due its high concentration of endangered animals including one-horned Rhino and tigers.

According to Regional Hotel Association, Chitwan the average occupancy of the hotel was 90 percent for the month of October and November. There are 85 hotels under the association with the total bed capacity of 2,100.

Vice-President of the association Narayan Bhattarai said the booking starting from the September was better compared to a year ago.

More than 70 percent of the hotels are offering attractive tour package but due to the increasing volume of booking, those planning to have last minute booking might not be able to get rooms.

Suman Ghimire of Jungle Safari Lodge and Resort said, “The booking status for September is at 80 percent and all the rooms are booked for October.”

According to the entrepreneurs although the month of June, July was a lean period for the business, the movement of domestic as well as Chinese tourist was encouraging.

Bhattarai at the regional hotel association said, "Most of the hotels were operating at the occupancy of 50 percent during the lean period as well."

The special attraction of Chitwan includes elephant ride, jungle safari, boating on Rapti river and Tharu cultural activities among others.

According to Chitwan National Park, more than 170,000 foreign tourists visited the national park in last fiscal year.
