Teej Festival next week

Women´s Creation - a community based non-profit organization working for the empowerment of women - is organizing ´11th Dabur Special Jasmine Teej Festival 2012´ from August 23-16 at Direction Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), Tripureshwar.

According to Milu Thapa, president of Women´s Creation, the festival will have a total of 100 stalls featuring handicraft items, Teej souvenir, sarees and kurthas, boutiques, gift items, jewelry, food stalls and mehendi and face painting among others. Exhibitors from Gharelu Mahila Udhyog, Biratnagar are also participating in the event.

Besides, a special fashion show on Teej theme featuring different celebrities and a food festival are also being organized during the event.

“The festival will provide platform for women entrepreneurs to share their creation and experiences. Besides, visitors will get the opportunity to shop for the Teej festival under one roof,” said Thapa, informing that children from Maiti Nepal will perform orchestral music during the inaugural ceremony.

According to the organizers, 20 percent of the funds raised from the festival will be used for the empowerment of women. Women´s Creation provides different trainings on sewing and beads weaving to underprivileged women.

The event is expected to attract around 40,000 visitors. Last year, the event had recorded total transactions of Rs 10 million.

“We hope transactions will increase time as we will have more stalls this year,” added Thapa. The organizers are charging Rs 10 per visitor as entrance fee.
