Qatar Airways bags 'World's Best Airline' award

Qatar Airways has been awarded ´World´s Best Airline´ for the second running year at the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards, a statement of the airlines said on Monday.

Along with the title of the top airline, the Doha-based carrier was also awarded with Best Airline in the Middle East for the seventh consecutive year and the Best Airline Staff Service award in the Middle East. The Skytrax awards is conducted by the global aviation research organization and polled by over 18 million business and leisure air travellers from more than 100 countries.

“Retaining awards is always difficult, but we have managed to do so,” the statement quoted Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker as saying.

Skytrax Chief Executive Officer Edward Plaisted said, "To win the airline of the year award for a second successive year is a remarkable achievement for Qatar Airways, and a clear recognition of the continued efforts by Qatar Airways´ management and staff," the statement added.

Qatar Airways has seen rapid growth in just 15 years of operation, currently operating a modern fleet of 109 aircraft to 117 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and South America. The national carrier of Qatar offers 28 direct flights a week between Doha and Kathmandu, offering connectivity to more than 100 destinations across the world.
